Yorkshire Wedding Trends for 2021
The best case scenario for 2021 is there are no restrictions and events can run as normal. If we look at the biggest summer events in the calendar such as Glastonbury, Leeds / Reading – both festival bosses Micheal Eavis and Melvin Benn are talking up the prospect of mass testing. This would be great news for festivals across Yorkshire like Sheffield’s Tramlines too.
However, I do think we’ll have some limitations on private events; I think perhaps under 1000 maybe 500. Perhaps that’s me being optimistic, as it means the vast majority of our marquee hire jobs will be back on but that’s what I really believe will be the case come April next year.
Slightly more analytical than my own predictions are Ramsdens Jewellery’s study how COVID-19 will impact wedding trends and marquee hire in Yorkshire by looking at Google data.
Fewer Weddings Abroad
Whilst the guarantee of a sunny wedding day by getting married abroad is a big lure, we think there will be fewer weddings abroad in 2021 because of the possible threat of travel restrictions. In June this year, there was a ‘45% decrease in search when you compare’ to last June for weddings abroad.
As a marquee hire company, we do a fair amount of weddings where the ceremony has already taken place and another event is hosted for those who weren’t able to travel abroad for the ceremony. However, once things are back to some sense of normality the destination wedding will return in tandem with the recovery of the travel and tourism industry.
Smaller Weddings
Whilst we lost 95% of our jobs this year, the ones we did do were obviously smaller and limited to the 30 capacity. We see this trend continuing in 2021 with the mood of uncertainty lingering. There was a ‘122% increase in people searching for “small wedding” this June compared to the same month last year’.
More Garden Weddings
It’s safer to be outside so it is no surprise that there was a ‘115% increase in the number of people searching for garden wedding inspiration, when you compare June 2020 to June 2019.’ I have seen it first hand that people are veering towards more intimate weddings, and we are garden wedding marquee hire specialists and we do one most weeks in the summer.
Wedding Insurance
We always ask our customers to take out insurance to cover our marquees, however, it seems that despite many insurance policies not actually paying out to cover COVID-19 related claims it does seem that the episode has brought home the reality to expect the unexpected. Google search data has shown that there have been 50% more searches for “wedding insurance” this June compared to June of last year.
Any major purchase should be insured, mobile phone, house or car and your wedding are no different. We ask our customers to take out insurance to cover accidental damage and recommend www.marqueeinsurance.co.uk. We are hearing stories of wedding insurance being difficult to find at the moment but we are expecting this to be sorted out in the coming months.
Loads of Weddings in Yorkshire
‘In June 2020, 55,000 more people searched for engagement rings compared to the same period of last year.’ With few weddings happening abroad, coupled with the fact that many weddings were postponed for 2020, we are going to see crazy demand in 2021 and 2022. Our advice would be to get booked in early.
